Associate Director

Cynthia Blitz, Ph.D., received her doctorate in Social Welfare from the University of Pennsylvania and was a postdoctoral trainee at the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research at Rutgers University. She is interested in public policy, behavioral health research, and research methodology. Specifically, her interests include the effects of structural change such as those created by policy or changing economic conditions on access to and utilization of behavioral health services and social functioning among individuals with mental illness and substance abuse problems. Her research includes an examination of welfare dynamics following changes in welfare policy, a study focusing on job coaches' perspectives on supported employment for individuals' mental impairments and a study exploring the relationship between media coverage of health policies designed to improve health outcomes for disadvantaged populations (e.g., the 1996 welfare reform and the recent Medicaid reform) and public support for such policies. A current project investigates the needs and resources relevant to integrating formerly incarcerated women into the New Jersey workforce.
